Poor naration
This is a wonderful book that is ruined by narration that is maybe best described as aggressive. The narrator more or less yells the book at you instead of reading it to you. And its all wildly inflected like its being read by a madman.
Whats worse is the voice chosen for the Cat. It sounds like it might fit Bozo the Clown, but it doesnt fit the cunning and mischievious Cat in the slightest. Its especially insulting after the spectacular characterizations in the first Cat in the Hat book, also published by Oceanhouse Media. Its frankly mind-boggling. Both books are published by the same company. One is the direct sequel to the other. Its like casting James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars and then Jim Carrey to play the same character in Empire Strikes Back.
Its so sad because on its own I think Cat in the Hat Comes Back is better than the original, and I was so excited to see it finally on the iPad for my daughter. But I really couldnt stand listening to this. It wont be a regular part of story time.
